Olony’s nomination has been a red hot topic on the table of negotiation between the Sudan People’s Liberation Party in Government (SPLM-IG) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO). Olony is seen as a threat to Upper Nile Stability by the government while IO sees Olony as the best choice for the state’s gubernatorial seat.
The reason as to why, the government reject Olony is still based on Apadang Community’s Olony rejection and the government itself saying that he is ready for peace and that he still have tribal mindset. The governor to be have also come under heavy criticism from Hon. Nhial Deng Nhial, the minister in the office of the President who also sees Olony as a threat.
The letter below explains why IO can’t give in to pressure from the government on who to choose as the Upper Nile State Governor prior to rejecting Gen. Johnson Olony.
