Former SPLM/A-IO Deputy Interior Minister, Hon. Mabior Garang D’Mabior has suggested that the opposition should surrender to the government.

According to the message seen by Ramciel, Mabior is reportedly frustrated by the SPLM/A-IO’s internal problems.

Mabior who resigned from his position in July 2020, believes that armed opposition has been defeated.

“Accepting our surrender to the regime and the barbaric ‘status quo’ may bring a better peace”, he wrote to a close friend familiar with his thinking.
He referred to himself and his friends as ‘the classic opposition’ and said there is no question whether the opposition under First Vice President, H.E Dr. Riek Machar Teny has surrendered or not, rather what should be done within the reality of this surrendering.

“Compatriots, the questions are no longer, has ‘the opposition’ surrendered or not surrendered to the barbaric ‘status quo’. No! The question now, is what can we – ‘the classic opposition’ – do for our peoples within the constraints of these realities?”

He admitted that SPLM/A-IO  is already defeated and no question about it.

“We have been defeated!” Mabior admits.

He warned failure not to accept this scenario will further turn the 2018 Revitalised Peace Agreement into “an individual power quest, a deadly one” that eventually will put the South Sudanese population under a subhuman condition.

“The failure to accept this defeat has turned the ‘Revitalized Agreement (2018)’ into an individual power quest, a deadly one. Under this new regime, our civil population continues to live in subhuman conditions a decade after the referendum on Self-Determination. This is the same deadly power struggle that has plagued the historic SPLM since its inception (1983) and has forestalled the triumph of our Renaissance today. It amounts to a total betrayal of the promise of the liberation struggle.”

What motivated Mabior, known to be vocal against the idea of surrendering to come out openly still shocked many of his followers.

He is currently spearheading an agricultural revolution that he believes will save the people of South Sudan from hunger.
