Warlord Akot Lual wasn’t arrested – source | RB

The Presidential envoy to Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA), Akot Lual who is also a close relative to H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit was reportedly arrested on Tuesday. But according to a national security service agent who spoke to Ramciel on condition of anonymity, Akot Lual was not actually arrested but called to report himself to the headquarters.

“We don’t know why he was called. But the reports of his arrest are deceptive. The man is walking freely,” he said.

Akot Lual was was said to have been arrested over the Jonglei ethnic conflicts.

“Akot was not actually arrested but called to headquarters for unknown reasons,” he added.

Akot Lual has been identified by public as one of the people who boldly fueling Jonglei conflicts by supplying weaponry to Murle community. Akot is a president’s advisor on minority affairs.

While speaking to Dolku Media nearly more than two months ago in an interview, Akot admitted that his duty is to protect small tribes.

“I feel my duty is to protect minority. The role of majority is to protect minority,” he said.

Jonglei State has been engulfed by waves of ethnic conflicts and inter-communal conflicts for decades.

The newly appointed governor of Jonglei, Hon. Denay Jok in his speech, indirectly pointed out the external forces that are making Jonglei State instable. Bor and Nuer have been at war with Murle since the start of the year, carrying out revenge attacks against Murle.
