Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) sector two commandants loyal to Machar from Unity State on Wednesday’s issued a statement condemning the recent declaration by the group’s former army chief General Simon Gatwech Dual and described it as a ‘conspiracy’ against peace deal with the intention of removing First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny as the group’s leader.
While holding a meeting later this week, the commandants said they remain loyal to Machar despite the ouster claim by the defunct purported leadership of Gen. Gatwech Dual whose decision is against the revitalized peace agreement Of 2018 in a statement released after the discussions in the just concluded meeting at Dingding in Rubkona County. The meeting was attended Major-Gener John Turuk Khor and Major-General Tito Biel and chaired by the sector two commandant General George Gathuoy Thak.
The spokesman for SPLA-IO’s sector 2, Pazala revealed to the press that other opposition commandants who attended the meeting include Major-General James Chuol Nyak Jiey, Major General Samuel Dok Wanjang, Major-General Moses Ruai Khor Yat, Major-General Joseph Gatbany Chuol, Major-General James Tut Yap Kuong, Major-General James Tap Gatdet, Major-General Peter Liem Bol, Major General Stephen Chap Majuan, Major-General Ruathel Tut and Brigadier-General James Kuer Puot Tut.
Also, a statement issued to journalists clearly highlighted that “All the commandants met to reaffirm their loyalty to the people of South Sudan under the wise leadership of Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the Chairman and Commandant in Chief of the SPLM/SPLA (IO),” according to Major Yai Pazala, the spokesman for SPLA-IO’s sector 2.
