Dodoma, Tanzania-President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E Samia Suluhu Hassan seems to be following the footsteps of the late President John Magufuli whose hatred for corruption is known far and wide.

On Sunday, the new president fires the head of Tanzania Port Authority Director-General, Hon. Deusdedit Kakoko including chief managers over the allegations of massive embezzlement of the institution’s fund, state media reported on Sunday.

The suspension came barely a week after the death of the country’s strong man, late John Magufuli from “complicated heart disease.”

She made the announcement after the report carried out by the Controller and Auditor-General (CAG) mentioning the TPA in massive detail.

The president ordered the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) to urgently look into such claims.

The institution is being accused of embezzling over TShs. 3.6billion.

“But from the report that you submitted to me yesterday, at least TSh3.6 billion had been embezzled at TPA…..When the Prime Minister conducted a probe, we only managed to fire junior staff. I now order the suspension of the TPA Director-General to pave way for investigations into the embezzlement,” she said.

Last year in December, Prime Minister Majaliwa suspended two officials of TPA to pave the way for investigations over accusations of embezzlement of public funds.

The two suspended officials were the Finance director Nuru Mhando, and the Financial Expenditures manager Witness Mahela.

President Hassan has warned that such an action will not be limited to the TPA but other public entities, including Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) which was adversely mentioned in the new report.
