South Sudan is currently experiencing unmatched political scenes with the latest being senior SPLM-IO opposition politicians joining the Kitgwang faction.
The group is spearheaded by deputy chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) Henry Odwar who have declared their intention to join the Kitgwang Declaration Group.
On Wednesday this week, Odwar resigned as South Sudan’s minister of mining and deputy to Machar from the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGONU) without elaborating reasons behind his decision.
In regards to the current situation, a statement released by Mr. Odwars group, confirmed that they are “troubled and disturbed by Dr. Riek Machar’s weak and compromised leadership quality that failed former Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army linked to Nasir Faction, South Sudan Independent Movement (SSIM), and now threatening the SPLM/A – (IO).”
Al in all, despite the heated defections, the political leaders who joined Mr. Odwar include Goi Jooyul Yol, a member of the SPLM-IO Political Bureau and head of the group’s national committee for education, Augustino Laku, a member of the National Liberation Council (NLC) and Tut Puok Nyang who is also a member of the NLC.
The group also sighted marginal weaknesses in the leadership of Machar and blamed him as a major reason for their exit.
