Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed fires his army chief and other senior officials

The Prime Minister of Ethiopia had today made some changes to his government but apparently giving no reason amid military offensive in the Tigray region.

Abiy’s office said Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen had been appointed foreign minister and Birhanu Jula was promoted to army chief of staff, from deputy army chief.

Abiy also named Temesgen Tiruneh, who was president of the Amhara region, as the new intelligence chief.

The news was reported on Abiy’s twitter handle.

The Prime minster also casted a video calling for an “end to impunity”
