President Kiir forms a committee to investigate Jonglei insecurity | Report

24/06/2020, (RB) – the President of the Republic of South Sudan, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit had last evening; 23/06/2020 executed an Executive Order NO.20/2020AD by constituting a committee that will look into the intercommunal violence (Jonglei State insecurity).

The members include:

V.P H.E James Wani Igga – Chairperson, Daniel Awet Akot, Deputy. Paul Mayom Akech- Member, Daniel Obacha Ali – Member. Other members include community reprrsentives as follows: Duk Padiet, Bor South, Ayod, Fangak, Pibor, Akobo, Duo Payuel, Waat and Twice East making a total of 13 members.

They are tasked with 1. Coordinating with government and humanitarian affairs agencies to ensure relief is provided to the affected communities. 2. Meet with elders of Jonglei State. 3. Address the root cause of the conflicts. 4. Organize peace conference of stakeholders that shall lead to resolution and recommendations to ensure lasting peace and stability in the area.

The move came about as a result of persistent insecurity which its result are as of tribal clashes pitying Lou Nuer Youth and Murle, Dinka Bor Youth and Murle and vice versa.

Recently Murle Youth have been accused of provoking the two communities and abducting their children and also raid their cattle. Ever since, there have been retaliations from all sides leading to persistence insecurity in Jonglei.

This move will therefore probably solve the issues that are affecting the State.
