Petroleum minister briefed President Salva Kiir on the improvement of the oil sector

South Sudan’s Minister of Petroleum, Hon. Puot Kang Chol has briefed the country’s leader, H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit on the improvement of the oil sector, according to a press statement by the office of the president.

Hon. Kang recently put together a massive oil sector reform aiming to nationalized the oil and giving more power to the locals.

“Monday 28th June 2021- His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit met with the Minister of Petroleum Hon. Puot Kang Chuol and briefed H.E. the President about the progress made towards the improvement of the oil sector.”

The Minister of Presidential Affairs Hon. Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin attended the briefing.

“H.E. the President directed the Minister of Petroleum to implement the resolutions that were passed by the Council of Ministers meeting on the improvement of the oil sector. These resolutions are, Unified Human Resources Management Policy manual, Local Content, Cost recovery audit, and Environmental audit.” Read part of the release on Monday.

Hon. Kang also briefed the President about the Africa Oil and Power Conference scheduled to take place on June 29th in Juba. The conference attracts regional and continental Ministers of Petroleum and Energy to discuss the future of the oil sector in Africa.

The President will open the conference at the Crown Hotel in Juba. Kang is said to have assured the H.E President Salva Kiir of his readiness towards doing more improvement on the oil sector and pledge to do as the president directed.
