Based on Tuesday’s meeting between President Kiir and his First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny, reshuffling within the IO is expected.

Kiir on Monday warned that when it comes to the security of his people, he is ready to alter the agreement. This could explain why the president is reluctant to appoint the nominated Upper Nile Governor, Lt. Gen. Johnson Olony by the leadership of the SPLM/A-IO.

Gen. Olony’s appointment is being opposed by the Dinka Apadang living in the Upper Nile.

A source with the knowledge regarding Dr. Machar’s decision said current Defense Minister, Hon. Angelina Teny to replace Hon. Puot Kang Chol, the minister of Petroleum. This will give room for Lt. Gen. Johnson Olony to run the ministry of defence.

Puot will be appoint as the governor of Upper Nile State.

Machar is expected by the president to put this in a written form as soon as possible.

Although details of their meeting were not immediately made available, several sources with the knowledge of what transpired behind the presidency, agreed that Gen. Olony will not come as the governor of the Upper Nile state.

The appointment is due this week.
