Former Deputy Minister of Interior, Cpt. Mabior Garang de Mabior has finally announced his resignation from the SPLM/A-IO.
Mabior accuses Dr. Machar of lacking vision and practicing nepotism instead of holding to the principles and values of transforming South Sudan.
“I, Mabior Garang de Mabior, hereby resign from the SPLM/A (IO) effective immediately. I have lost faith in the vision and principle of the party under the leadership of Dr. Riek Machar Teny. I joined the Movement with the objectives of implementing reforms and transforming South Sudan into the nation my father, the late Dr. John Garang de, Mabior, wanted”, read the letter of his resignation.
According to the letter extended to Ramciel by a source familiar with Mabior thinking and his political moves, Mabior will soon reveal a political party to champion for the reform in the country.
He accuses Machar of nepotism and corruption said he appointed his wife into the Ministry of Defense.
“Dr. Riek Machar was a critic of nepotism and favoritism but appointed his wife as the Minister of Defense. This decision was controversial, but Dr. Riek should have consulted the SPLM/A (IO) leadership. SPLM/A (IO) are reformers and believe that change must come from good governance and appointing people on merits not because of family relationships.” Further stated the document.
Mabior also said Machar appointed junior officers in the SPLM/A (IO) who have no experience in governance instead of allowing them to grow in the party.
“Dr. Riek Machar champion reform and governance but appointed incompetent Minister, Hon. Pout Kang Chol, Minister of Petroleum, lacks any experience, skills, and knowledge to lead a Ministry, let alone a critical Ministry like Petroleum. Hon. Pout Kang should have been allowed to work in the Office of Dr. Riek so he may learn and grow within the party leadership and rally South Sudanese youth.”, Mabior stated.
Political activists believe the resignation of Mabior from the SPLM/A-IO will cost FVP Dr. Machar’s political career.
