Prominent politician, a champion for reform, Hon. Duer Tut Duir accuses First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny of betraying Lt. Gen. Johnson Olony Thabo.
Duer aired out his concerns on Saturday after the appointment of Hon. Budhok Ayang Kur as the governor of Upper Nile state through presidential decree on Friday.
The appointment of Gen. Olony as the governor of Upper Nile was turned down by president Kiir several times citing, the Dinka in Upper Nile will not be safe under his leadership.
Despite Olony being the only choice for Upper Nile governorship by the armed opposition, Kiir refused such an endorsement.
In a letter seen by Ramciel, Duer said the appointments of Hon. Budhok is a betrayal to Olony by Machar.
“Finally, General Johnson Olony is not appointed, because Riek Machar betrayed General Johnson Olony and betrayed the people of Upper Nile by joining the Position of Salva Kiir”
According to a person familiar with Kiir’s thinking, he delayed the appointment of the Upper Nile governor because Machar has no power to dedicate things relating to the opposition movement.
He said Machar is in Juba with no capacity opinion to fight for the IO.
“Salva Kiir and Riek Machar delayed the formation of the State Governments and particularly that of Upper Nile because the people of Upper Nile State wanted General Johnson Olony to be appointed as the Governor while Salva Kiir was against the appointment of General Johnson Olony,” Duer further stated.
Personal aid to Duer said, “Machar is no longer relevant to discuss or champion reform agenda” since his opinions do not matter to Kiir anymore.
He cites the recent appointments of the Upper Nile governor as a redline to wake up “the blind and diehard supporters” of Machar.
“Riek Machar shown his leadership weakness and failure, he shows lack of courage and lack of determination, he demonstrates the fact that he never sticks to his words. He is not a man of his words,” Duer said.
Hon. Duer Tut Duir has been championing reform within the IO. His popularity has been on increase since last year.
