In a letter sent to Dr. Lam Akol the then leader of SPLM/A-United by the late charismatic SPLM/A Chairman, Dr. John Garang de Mabior, date March 10, 2004, indicated an absolute approval of Malakal as a Chollo land.
The letter sent to Ramciel Broadcasting by a source familiar with Dr. John Garang, 4 counties including Malakal as part of the greater Shulluk Kingdom land in the Upper Nile Region.
