Infamous Jieng Council of Elders (JCE) is still maintaining the idea that both Kiir and Machar failed the country. According to council, both the leaders should step aside. The council’s stated position was that the people of South Sudan has demanded that both leaders will not partake in the leadership prior to elections.

Speaking to Mathiang Cirilio, the council’s spokesperson, Dr. Aldo Ajou said “peace must be implemented” by the parties who signed it because South Sudan want peace.

“What we really support is the Revitalized Peace Agreement. We endorsed the outcome because that is what the people said” he told Cirilo in an interview aired on February 1 this month.

JCE however, is continuing to be blamed for the leadership failure in the country. In this particular interview, Aldo maintains that the council is innocent and working to support peace.

He said their work is to promote peace and the war does not happen again the world’s young nation.

“Go to the people in the village, counties, Bomas, and everyone saying Kiir and Riek will not reconcile” this is not us, he added.

Aldo also said,” When both Riek and Kiir started the war, we came out clearly and stated that this war is not between Dinka and Nuer. We have been clear about this.”

“When the Dinka were being killed in Yei road, Nimuli road, we told Dinka not to revenge.”

The group has been accused of being the shadow government telling president Kiir what to do and not. In a long interview with Cirilo the spokesperson told the people that they are for peace.

He accuses Khartoum of creating lies about the Dinka community and contributing to the destruction of South Sudan. He did not however, clarify how Khartoum does that.
