The former SPLA-IO Chief of General Staff General Gatwech Dual is said to be making preparations to hand over power to a civilian administration within the SPLM-IO very soon. Former deputy minister of interior Mabior Garang De Mabior has confirmed the development.
Speaking this morning, Mabior said senior SPLM-IO politicians who recently joined the Kitgwang faction led by General Simon Gatwech Dual are confident that the opposition commander will soon hand over power to a civil administration of the main armed opposition group
Mabior further stressed that “Dr. Riek Machar was deposed by his army, not politicians. We who agree with the principles raised by the army in the Kit Gwang Declaration are waiting for the army to hand over political power to a civilian administration. This we are confident will happen soon,” Mabior said.
According to him (Mabior), the group is aware that Machar is mentioned by name in the revitalized peace agreement as the sole occupant of the office of the First Vice President and as such they are not as of now for Machar’s removal from the position as they are not for positions.
The respect for Dr. Riek Machar as an elder and as well respect for the constitutional post. Mabior clarified that they are not calling for war but peace. Our colleagues have been in Juba for three years now. The revitalized implementors have been given a chance to prove their version of peace and now time has come to revisit the implementation and co-existence of all the forces said in the Revitalized peace process to take another look at a different approach to the implementation of the ongoing peace process.
