The office of the Ethiopia premier dismisses on Monday the rumors surrounding the safety of Dr. Abiy Ahmed.

The government response to the public after a report of the prime minister’s safety concern begins circulating on social media. Abiy has not been seen in public for days.

Ethiopia’s prominent social media activist, Seyoum Teshome wrote on Sunday to his massive followers on social media that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was shot and in critical condition, Brokena.com reported.

Seyoum alleged that the Premier was flown overseas to seek medical attention.

The office of the prime minister released a statement the following day dismissing the rumor.

“We ask members of the public to be vigilant about fake news circulating about Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s well being on social media”

Dr. Abiy disappeared from the public eye for two weeks. Despite the British Foreign Affairs visiting Ethiopia on Friday last week, Abiy did not meet with him.
