The transformational alliance of defection has in recent days posed a huge threat to the Machar administration throughout the country. Chief of Staff, Sector One Commander, military spokesman, among other three more powerful generals have defected from the Machar administration leaving the country’s stronghold opposition wing with many seatbelts to fix. Most of the generals who have defected so far are currently in talks with the ruling party to join their coalition.
A statement issued earlier today indicates that the three opposition commanders decided to return to SSPDF something they described “their rightful place”, the SPLM party led by president Salva Kiir.
According to the statement reference as quoted herein read “ in the same historical town, three senior Major Generals declared their decision to return to the National Army, the South Sudan People’s Defence Force (SSPDF) and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), our rightful place, under the Leadership of His Excellency General Salva Kiir Mayardit, the President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chairman of SPLM.” The statement confirms the position of the defected commandants.
While declaring their defection in Malual Gahoth, a historical town in Upper Nile state, the three generals believe that they made president Kiir proud for declaring their allegiance under a tree that Salva Kiir used to sit in the past.
The three commandants are grateful they have crossed over to the right party after several years of the Machar Army. They however accused Machar and his wife of nepotism, tribalism and corruption.
With reference to the statement, Gen. Khor said “I am declaring my return to the Government under His Excellency President Kiir under the historical tree, the Fig Tree (Ngop) and Presidemt Kiir should be proud of that because he knows this Fig Tree very well in Malual Gahoth.”
