South Sudan is about to witness a very critical political juncture as the president is in decision to reshuffle the highest body in the land; the presidency. According to senior government official who asked for privacy, this move is being discussed.

President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit will relieve Taban Deng from his position as the vice president, H. E. James Wani Igga to return to parliament, and unexpectedly Hon. Dak Duop Bichiok to be appointed as the Vice President (Replacing Taban). Former Chief of Staff Paul Malong Awan to replace James Wani as recently negotiated.

The move is to build president’s strategy to end the political career of his opponents as he is highly termed to have won the war against the rebels, a move adopted by President of Uganda, Yoweri K. Museveni in his early years in power.

By having Gen. Paul Malong Awan return to the government, the president is sure to regain trust and win the majority power block of Northern Bar el Gazel.

“The president had had a meeting with H.E James Wani Igga and Gen. Taban Deng this weekend. He asked James if he can return to parliament as the speaker of the national assembly; Taban to waits. The two good friends agreed to the president’s suggestion.” Said the official who spoke to our team this evening.

According to the aid, the economic burdens the nation is experiencing can not sustain a massive government. But at least for now Kiir is willing to accommodate some individuals he sees as influential. the president never gone away from his policy of appeasement. It is alleged, he wants to return the nation to President-Vice-President system.

Still there are more questions than answers. The keys principles to peace agreement are yet to be fully implement. The IO soldiers deserting training centers; fighting in Morobo between the government forces and SPLM/A-IO; and the still to be filled position of the Upper Nile governor.

Furthermore, the government is negotiating a different deal of agreement in Rome with SSOMA leaders while neglecting full implementation of the peace agreement with his arch rivals, the SPLM/A-IO.
