This week, South Sudan is once again rocked by the issue of sexual harassment accusations coming from the top government officials. This time, it comes from the top office in the land. None other than president Salva Kiir Mayardit’s spokesman, Ateny Wek Ateny.
Ateny is being accused of sexually harassing South Sudanese prominent activist, Daniella Valentino Wol in Juba last week. This is not the first time such a claim is being made. Several other women in the first raise such concerns but no action was taken.
The accuser, Daniella Valentino Wol is a prominent south Sudanese activist currently living in U.K. Wol went to Juba for a family visit and to celebrate Christmas with the loved ones. Known as Dinka Chick, Daniella request to meet with the president, a man he defended so much from the rebels only to be shocked when asked by the president’s spokesman to have sex with him.
According to sources, Daniella downplays it as a joke at first but it becomes clear that Ateny meant business, she was outright. She was evicted in her hotel paid by Ateny and instantly became homeless. It was at this point that she began to complain.
Daniella, after no one is believing the story, she took it to social media. She wrote to the president of the republic;
“Good morning Mr. President, I had become homeless in December 2020 and I checked myself into the cheapest possible hotel, I could have got money to pay for it if I didn’t refused to be F**K BY Ateny Wek Ateny. Mr. President Ateny is using your office and public resources to destroy women of South Sudan and your presidential image.”
Daniella was furious and said no woman should give herself to Ateny n order to access the president or get help when necessary. She appeals to the president to ask Ateny to change course.
