Armed youth suspected to be from Pibor Administrative Area carried out several attacks at Uror and Nyirol counties on Monday, according to a press release seen by Ramciel.

Based on the press release sent out to the media outlets by Hon. Veronica William Deng, Spokesperson and the Minister of Information, Communication, Postal Services, Radio, and TV. Jonglei State-Bor, the attacks at Uror County was at Lang-ngiir village of Pamai Payam.

Hon. Veronica reported that the attackers were repulsed by the local youth before launching any further attack.

“This morning at around 7:00 AM, there were several attacks at Uror and Nyirol counties of Jonglei State carried out by armed youth suspected to be from Pibor Administrative Area. Attacks at Uror County were at Lang-ngiir village of Pamai Payam. The youth of the area managed to intercept the attackers before launching any attack and then the area youth repulsed the attackers and are still in hot pursuit.”
Hon. Veronica accuses the armed youth of planning an attack to cause fear and panic.

“On the development, the armed youth suspected to be from Pibor Administrative Area were intercepted planning to attack several villages of Nyirol County. These armed youth suspected to be from Pibor Administrative Area scattered themselves in many areas of Nyirol County for possible attacks and the people are in great panic and fear now.”

The Jonglei government condemns the attackers and call upon the administration of Pibor to hold the perpetrators accountable.

“The government of Jonglei State condemns these attacks on innocent civilians in the strongest terms possible and we call upon the government of Pibor Administrative Area to hold the perpetrators accountable.”

The leadership of Jonglei also urge the National Government to speed up the unification of forces to help in maintaining law and order across the country.

“We also call upon R-TGoNU to graduate the NECESSARY UNIFIED FORCES to maintain law and order in the Republic of South Sudan.”
